Bunge and Grupo HAME partner to advance environmental education and water access in Guatemala

Bunge and Grupo HAME are partnering to support sustainable community development in Sayaxché, Petén, Guatemala. Through funding from Bunge and coordination by REPSA, a Grupo HAME company, the initiative will benefit 10 primary schools with environmental education programs, community-led reforestation activities, and safe drinking water solutions.

The project is expected to impact more than 300 students, helping strengthen environmental stewardship, improve access to safe water, and build community resilience. Reforestation efforts will also support the protection of local ecosystems and water sources.

“Our partnership with Grupo HAME demonstrates how collaboration across the value chain can deliver shared value for both business and social sustainability. By investing in projects that support environmental stewardship and local communities, we strengthen long-term supply chain resilience, deepen relationships with key partners, and contribute to responsible sourcing in the regions where we operate,” said Eduardo Cabral, Trading Oils Director at Bunge.

“Creating positive outcomes for people and communities through strategic business relationships with suppliers is an important part of how we operate at Bunge. Through our collaboration with Grupo HAME, we are helping improve access to safe water, supporting environmental education for children and families, and contributing to the restoration of local ecosystems. These efforts help build stronger, more resilient communities while protecting the natural resources on which future generations depend,” said Laura de Gruijter, Social Impact Manager at Bunge.

Through this partnership, Bunge and Grupo HAME are contributing to long-term social and environmental impact, helping equip future generations with the knowledge and resources needed to build more sustainable communities.

“As a Group, we are proud to coordinate with companies such as Bunge, which, like us, are committed to promoting local development. Through this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to sustainable production,” said Alejandro Chacón, Special Sustainability Projects Manager at Grupo HAME.
