As we recognize Earth Day and this year’s theme of “Our Power Our Planet,” we highlight a few of our industry-leading initiatives and partnerships around the world that tap into our commitments to non-deforestation, new market opportunities, renewable feedstocks while protecting land and resources through regenerative agriculture and other responsible practices. 

Non-Deforestation Commitments
A central part of our business plan and the most ambitious deadline in our industry, our commitment to be free of deforestation in our values chains aims to be completed in this year. We focus efforts on value chains where deforestation is a higher risk, like Soy from South America and Palm from Southeast Asia. In October 2024, Bunge became the first global commodity exporter to achieve 100% traceability and monitoring of its direct and indirect soy purchases in priority regions of the Cerrado biome in Brazil. This major milestone was achieved using technologies such as satellite and farm-scale images, remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and structured data to advance traceability and monitoring and perform the socio-environmental diagnosis of agricultural properties. By advancing our 2025 non-deforestation commitment, we are intrinsically linking our business to the protection of ecosystems of high biodiversity value. We acknowledge our responsibility to maintain high standards of ethics and integrity across our business and expect our suppliers and business partners to uphold similar principles.

Regenerative Agriculture
We believe that the agriculture of the future is low-carbon, and the need to decarbonize the economy brings new market opportunities for less carbon-intensive solutions, with enormous potential for the grain and oilseed sector. Bunge has been working on regenerative agriculture projects in South America, North America and Europe to support our partner farmers in seizing the opportunities of this expanding market, while helping our clients meet their own sustainability commitments. In partnership with both, we are helping to scale farming practices that aim to result in productive crop yields that put less pressure on the land and sequester CO2 into the soil. Over time, regenerative agriculture is expected to help companies, including Bunge, to meet their emissions goals while creating new income streams for farmers.

Renewable Fuels
Bunge has supported the renewable fuels sector as a supplier of feedstocks for several years. Now, we are actively engaged in supplying low-carbon feedstock for renewable fuels, sourcing and supplying grains planted under regenerative agricultural practices, supplying certified and verified deforestation-free grains and by-products, and expanding partnerships to meet growing demand for the next generation of renewable fuels and the development of lower-carbon intensity feedstocks. Through our partnerships with Chevron and Corteva, we are championing the decarbonization of the fuel industry with investments in renewable feedstock for biofuels, renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel. These initiatives are a natural extension of our sustainability efforts and have been partly developed by applying a “climate lens” to our strategic decision-making.

Our ongoing investments in infrastructure, including processing plants designed to handle these novel crops, are integral to supporting the growth of the biofuels industry, offering our offerings of cost-effective, sustainable products to customer around the globe. These innovations are crucial to reducing carbon intensity across the entire value chain, supporting a transition to more sustainable, low-carbon fuels.
