Channahon Plant meets ENERGY STAR Challenge goals and reduces energy intensity by 12%

Our Bunge Loders Croklaan plant in Channahon, Illinois has achieved a 12 percent reduction in energy intensity in two years as part of the ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry. The challenge, recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), calls on industry leaders to make a commitment to reducing their overall energy intensity by 10 percent within five years or less.

Across the business, were working to implement innovative solutions and optimize our facilities in ways that minimize our environmental footprint, said Eugenia Zorila-Mertlik, Vice President, Operations, Bunge Loders Croklaan. Were proud of the dedication our Channahon plant team has displayed in incorporating strong energy management practices into plant operations, enabling them to meet the ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry goals three years in advance.

In a effort locally led by Amish Patel, the Regional-Manager Operations, and Alison Simon, Utilities Area Manager, the Channahon plant has reduced over 2,400 metric tons of greenhouse gasses from entering into the atmosphere. To put that into perspective, thats enough energy to power 325 homes for an entire year.

The emissions reduction at the Channahon facility is part of an overall commitment by Bunge, as part of our Action on Climate sustainability goal, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 10 percent across all operations by 2026.

To meet the ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry benchmark, we established an onsite energy team and identified high-impact energy saving opportunities and local incentive programs. Were excited to continue identifying more opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the plant, said Kyle Burke, Global Energy Optimization Program Manager.
